Uber den Künstler

Edgar Knoop (1936) works in a range of techniques such as collage, sculpture, installation, photography, and light objects in public spaces. In the development of his work are two constants: colour and light. His work touches on various movements such as ‘Concrete Art’, ‘Op Art’ and ‘Kinetic Art‘. Starting from 1995 Knoop makes collages of cardboard on paper, the Horizonte series. These works are inspired by his perception of the landscapes he crossed on his work travel in North and South America, Asia and the Maghreb. The landscapes arise from a combination of the accident of the tearing of crimped cardboard and the precision and control of the pasting of these clips to each other. Colour is used as a substance. In 2015 the museum van Bommel van Dam (Venlo) ‘acquired’ works from this series. Knoop exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe, in Egypt, Tunisia, United States, Colombia and Kazakhstan. He lives in Seeboden, Austria.
