Uber den Künstler

Janny Kuiper (1932 - present) is an autodidact Dutch artist from Nieuwe-Niedorp, where she still resides. She is considered to be a Naïve artist, an Art Movement characterised by the childish way of portraying by disobeying the rules of proportion and perspective. While some artists intentionally disobey these academic rules, these characteristics are most often caused by the lack of academic training of the artist. According to Janny Kuiper, she started painting because she could not find a painting suitable for her interior. Her paintings are cheerful and colourful and mostly depict winter landscapes with people who are ice skating, local fairs in small villages and local parties. All her scenes are directly from her memory, depicting her slightly idealised childhood memories. Her works show similarities with Naïve artists such as Cornelis Kaay, Willem Bakkum and Adriaan Dekker. Her works were featured in expositions in Japan and the West-Frisian Museum and have also been used by the airline company KLM for ads.
