Sweet and charming duck by the artist Curt Bauch, made around 1920. The bronze has a beautiful dark brown patina.

The bronze is signed with 'C. Bauch'.

    About the artist:
Georg Curt Bauch (Meissen, 1887-Switzerland, 1967) was born in 1887 as the son of the porcelain painter Wilhelm Bauch in Meissen. He first studied at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden as pupil of Hugo Spieler and attended the Academy as student of the sculptor Robert Diez thereafter. In 1914 Bauch won the Prix de Rome.
This was followed by numerous trips to Rome, Palermo, Agrigento, Paris and Copenhagen.

In 1917 he built a studio with its own bronze foundry in Dresden-Loschwitz. He exhibited regularly, including at the Grosse Berliner ausstellung in 1925.
Bauch’s consistent anti-fascist attitude led to existential problems, eventually he fled to Switzerland in Brione Sopra Minusio. He continued to live there for the rest of his life.

His oeuvre includes male and female nudes, reliefs, busts, including a beautiful bust of Max Liebermann, and animal figures.
He worked in a slightly stylized, figural style. Greek mythology was a great inspiration to him.

His works can be admired among others at the Municipal Museum in Bautzen, at the Albertina in Dresden and in Zurich (Secretariat of the City President).
